Keeladi (also spelt Keezhadi), located about 12 km southeast of Madurai, drew national attention after over 7,500 ancient artifacts believed to be from Sangam Age were unearthed. In 2014, Amarnath Ramakrishna, then the ASI’s Superintending Archaeologist, initiated excavations at the site, which was originally a coconut grove.
